Breaking the Loop
"The mind is an excellent servant, but a terrible master."
We all have mental loops. Old resentments, recurring anxieties, and habits we promised ourselves we’d break, yet find ourselves repeating. In the yogic tradition, it is said that our subconscious mind is like a basement; if we don’t clean it out regularly, the clutter piles up until we can’t move freely.
Today’s practice is a "mental broom." It is called Kirtan Kriya.
This specific meditation uses the "primary sounds" of the universe (Sa-Ta-Na-Ma) combined with finger movements to balance the hemispheres of the brain and clear the subconscious clutter. It is a neurological reset button.
The Practice: Sa Ta Na Ma
Time: 30 Minutes
Sit: Find a comfortable seat with a straight spine. Rest your hands on your knees, palms facing up.
The Sound: You will chant four syllables: Sa, Ta, Na, Ma.
Sa (Infinity/Birth)
Ta (Life)
Na (Death/Transformation)
Ma (Rebirth)
The Movement: As you chant, press your thumb firmly against each fingertip in rhythm:
Press thumb to Index finger: Sa
Press thumb to Middle finger: Ta
Press thumb to Ring finger: Na
Press thumb to Pinky finger: Ma
The Sequence:
Chant out loud for 1 minute.
Whisper the chant for 1 minute.
Chant silently in your head for 1 minute (keep the fingers moving).
To End: Inhale deeply, reach your arms up to the sky, shake your hands vigorously to circulate the energy, and relax.
Today’s Thought: I am not my habits. I have the power to rewrite my own mind.
